There has, and still is, much debate on when Apple is planning to incorporate an Apple TV App Store on their new update hobbyist product. Information has already been publicized showcasing that the new Apple TV software has the same baseline as iOS, inviting the possibility for applications to make their way to an HDTV and living room near you. The iGod himself Steve Jobs even chimed in that Apple definitely can see apps being used from the living room couch and they will launch it “when the time is right.”
Through the week, more information has presented itself that throws gas on the Apple TV App Store flame. Stumbling on some info on LinkedIn, a job profile of an intern depicts their position this summer at Apple as an AppleTV Apps Engineer. While this can range from a number of things such as R&D for an actual App Store on the AppleTV software to making some refinements and additions in the current built-in applications for the device’s new system software, it does spark some question on what Apple might be up to given previous finding and Steve Jobs two cents on the matter.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the App Store on AppleTV as Google has announced that they will be enabling the Android Marketplace on Google TV for users to purchase applications. However, their approach to bringing apps to the living room seem more like a copy-&-paste from their mobile platform. Apple will more than likely take a dedicated approach and create applications specific for the AppleTV.

what’s more, I'm completely biased, but my own app is my favorite, though not yet optimized for the iPad. (free test sample available via Private Message, no purchase required)

I think apps in the living room could be a big another milestone for Apple. That is, if Google doesn’t beat them to the punch.

Am I the only person thinking – forget apps fit the ATV. Just use it to mirror whatever is on you iPhone or iPad straight to your big screen. Is that so hard to do? Think about it, web, email, games and so on, all mirrored on your big tv, with the iPhone/iPad on your hand/lap as the input/control device. No fragmentation, no appleTV app store – simple. Or am I crazy?
